Agricultural Commission

The Berkley Agricultural Commission was created by the town’s Board of Selectmen in 2024 to serve as a resource and voice for the community’s farmers and those engaged in agricultural practices. This board is made up of seven (7) voting members who are appointed after review by the Berkley Board of Selectmen. The members are town residents who participate in agricultural practices within the community and who are committed to the promotion and preservation of agriculture for generations to come.

The Berkley Agricultural Commission participates in the community in the following ways:

  • Protect and preserve agricultural practices, and farmlands within Berkley.
  • Promote agriculture within the community by working with local farms, encouraging economic opportunities, encouraging the community to become more involved in agricultural practices, helping provide information pertinet to farming in town, i.e. soil maps, available grants, new or revised laws, etc.
  • Educate the community about agricultural practices, the rich history agriculture has played in our town and how important agriculture is going into the future.
  • Mediate conflict and settle disputes in the best way for the community as a whole while still keeping the importance of agriculture and the rights of farmers in mind.
  • Work together with other town committees and boards to help make informed decisions about farms, farmland and agricultural practices in our town.
  • Organize and plan agricultural events within the community.
  • Act as another resource for the community to be able to obtain the necessary input and possible assistance from state and federal levels.
