The Town of Berkley would like to inform residents that crews from CEC are tentatively scheduled to conduct dry-weather stormwater testing throughout Town on Monday, October 12th.
Crews will be traveling in marked vehicles and collecting samples from stormwater outfalls to test for a variety of substances. This work helps the Town meet its stormwater monitoring and reporting obligations, while supporting our ongoing efforts to keep Berkley’s waterways clean!
Why does this matter?
Stormwater runoff carries more than just rainwater. As water flows over roads, lawns, driveways, and other surfaces, it can pick up pollutants that eventually make their way into local streams, rivers, and other waterways.
Stormwater testing has been conducted in Berkley for many years, and previous testing has identified indicators of chemical contamination and pet waste.
Help keep Berkley clean!
Residents can do their part by:
- Picking up after pets and properly disposing of waste.
- Avoiding dumping chemicals, oils, or other substances into storm drains.
- Using lawn fertilizers and pesticides responsibly.
- Keeping leaves, grass clippings, and trash out of catch basins and drainage systems.
